Sam Jacob - Design’s Double Aspect from 100% Design on Vimeo.

Sam Jacob from Sam Jacob Studio looks at how we shape our tools and thereafter our tools shape us. As designers we find ourselves precariously balanced between two worlds: The one we inhabit and the ones we create. Design has this strange double aspect that looks forward and backwards at the same time. Through projects ranging from the V&A’s first international gallery in Shenzhen to a 5 sqm art gallery that is also a hair salon as well as a studio, Sam’s talk will explore how design is both a way of understanding the world and a way of making the kind of world we might want to live in.

OnOffice Presents Retrofit of Build Anew? The Role of Commercial Architecture in London’s Urban Planning from 100% Design on Vimeo.

London is a city with history, protected vistas, and a long-gone fireman’s ladder height cap. But with several hundred new office towers in the pipeline, is the capital’s essence being tainted, or is it just shifting? Should we be making better use of land by retrofitting existing buildings or tackling placemaking through purpose-built office towers? Chaired by OnOffice Editor, Elissaveta Marinova, with Nick Ridout, Project Director at Scott Brownrigg’s and Karen Cook, founding partner of PLP Architecture.
