Emerging Brands Spotlight: KYOHEI & MIRANDA

KYOHEI & MIRANDA

The UK’s strongest platform for newly established design talent. Packed with innovative ideas, Emerging Brands follows the tradition of 100% Design's original ethos; launching new talent. Find out more about KYOHEI & MIRANDA, who will be exhibiting for the 25th edition of 100% Design, as they answer all of our questions below.

KYOHEI & MIRANDA's main business is to design contracts with furniture brands. Our studio also sells our bespoke items by collaborating with skilled manufactures in Japan and the UK. The core mind of their products is established by new masterpieces and craftspersonship, respecting details and quality rather than outstanding looks. There are two main design schemes in their studio; one is creative design and the other is personified design.

Talk us through your latest product/s:

Since our designs are not for creating dream worlds but enriching real lives, the issues today are often considered in our design scheme and this year it is ‘community/society'. As usual, modular sofa and glassware are designed in practical design language whilst the dining chair has a little bit of an artsy finish.

What goals would you like to achieve for your company in the future?

We visited last year and found it would be a good opportunity for us. We have been experiencing a financially tough time and seriously need to breakthrough it. We truly appreciate that you find our talent noteworthy and thank you for the warm support by sending over this questionnaire. We will believe in ourselves and keep challenging our limits. We need support from people who also believe in our talents.

Why did you choose to exhibit at 100% Design?

In contemporary society an online presence is key in order to grow your design firm – How do you utilise the internet to increase your customer base?

We use it for promotion such as attending design weeks and having our page in online markets. In the next stage, we would like to use it for customer satisfaction, especially something customers cannot experience in shops. With AR, customers can put our products in their room and with VR they can picture the interior finish more clearly. In the future, we want to incorporate these tools into our online presence.

What made you want to become a designer?

We spend our lives mostly working and I think it is awful if we work just to keep living. However, our work is meaningful if it contributes to someone’s happiness as well as earning a living for your family. A coffee shop employee gives you a delicious latte with a big smile in the morning. A train conductor takes you back to the home where your family is waiting for you in the evening. Design is the only thing I can do for others.-Kyohei.

Establishing networks is important for an emerging design firm – How did you go about growing yours?

It has been tough. We have been challenging ourselves and concentrating to create items which meet high standards in the market and satisfy users but establishing networks is something we cannot do without support from companies like Media 10, 100% design. We well understand that it is better for business benefits to only choose pleasant concepts. However, media 10 understands creative freedom and respects our design approach.
