Introducing Woodlikes Design - Woodlikes is an Interior design, furniture & lighting bespoke company created by Julien Bonzom; an award winning French designer passionate about bringing the elegance of different materials into a unique vision of furniture and design. Woodlikes is a company that values personality, identity and uniqueness. As such it offers its clients the opportunity to create their own personalised pieces of bespoke furniture, lighting and home interior design.

About the company

1) Introduce your company:

Woodlikes design in an interior, furniture and lighting company based in North London. We are a newly established and developing company and we believe that design should be both artistic and functional. We value personality and uniqueness.  We pick the best materials in terms of quality. All of our pieces are handcrafted to ensure the best quality.

2) Talk us through your latest product/project?:

At Woodlikes, we like to use and combine different materials, textures and shapes. Our latest project is the new furniture pieces we are planning to launch at 100% Design in September. For this year, we will be introducing upholstery and mirrors, and accessories such as in-built sound system. Come and have a look for yourselves.

3) What goal would you like to achieve for your company in the future?:

We aspire to provide and create the finest quality of contemporary design that combines art and innovation. As such our goal is to continue to develop our products and become one of the top range companies within the industry across the UK. Further, we would welcome more collaborative work with other designers, as well as architects and artists in the future.

About 100% Design

4) Why did you choose to exhibit at 100% Design?

We exhibited a collection here last year and it was a fantastic experience! It is refreshing and invigorating to be around so much design and innovation at one place and to meet the people behind these. To have an opportunity to show our work as part of such atmosphere is most exciting. This year, are delighted to be coming back; we have a bigger space and more variety in the furniture ideas we will put forward. 

About the industry

5) Does design lack maturity?

We see design as a fluid entity that celebrates creativity, challenges norms and changes perceptions. As such, we think that labelling it as “mature” or “lacking maturity” is an unnatural attempt to constrain expression.

6) In contemporary society an online presence is key in order to grow your design firm – How do you utilize the internet to increase your customer base?

WE

Social media is of course the way forward in a contemporary society. Our chosen platforms are Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest, where we attempt to keep our presence through publishing photographs of the collection items, on-going project, and interesting and innovative current trends in design. Having said this, we also enjoy and value being physically present at design events such as 100% Design.

 

About the individual

7) What made you want to become designer?

I’ve always had a passion for creating new things. With that I also enjoy seeing the response of others in relation to the pieces and the designs that I create. I think the aim of design is to create an emotion or elicit an experience in others, which for me feels rewarding, invigorating and satisfying.

8) Establishing networks is important for an emerging designer firm –How did you go about growing yours?

This is certainly one of the hardest things to achieve as an emerging brand. So far we have managed to create our network through events and social media. Establishing a good working relationship with clients, supplies and colaborators that is transparent, respectful and positive is another way that we at Woodlikes are committed to always work towards.
