About 100% Design

3) Why did you choose to exhibit at 100% Design?:

100% Design is a perfect platform for us. It has helped us to raise brand awareness and make contact with buyers and designers in the trade industry looking for emerging talent to incorporate in to their designs. The footfall is amazing and the event itself is very well coordinated by the team at Media 10 and I would highly recommend it to other upcoming designers/Brands.

4) What can visitors expect to see at your stand?:

Visitors can expect to see unique limited edition contemporary art and accessories for the home. Glass mounted prints, Framed prints, coasters and placemats for the dining table, luxury silk cushions as well as greetings cards. Uplifting and striking pieces from the Colour in Motion, Water Drop and Light Painting series by Elizabeth James.

About the industry

5) What would you say are the prominent trends within art design at the moment?:

Prominent trends in design currently are Typography where lettering is incorporated in to the design itself. The colour green had become strong again, whether it be lime green or emerald green, tropical prints are also popular, along with texture and marble/brass combinations. Muted colours are also on the rise, I have a lovely piece from the Colour in Motion series called Muted Rainbow which will also be on display at 100% Design next to Lime Street and Lime Light, so do look out for them. Gray was a popular colour for interiors in 2016 and I think it will continue to reign in 2017.

6) Do current trends in art/furniture inform your design decisions?:

Sometimes they have an influence on my designs; in that a particular hue of colour might be the starting point for a piece of art or homeware. But I tend to work from the heart and let my designs evolve naturally. I am often inspired by my own environment and enjoy working with natures elements.

About the individual

7) What made you want to become a designer?:

I have always enjoyed creating things from my early childhood, glueing, cutting, colouring and making jewellery with beads. I remember when I left home for the first time and was trying to put my mark on my new home, looking in shops for pieces of art and accessories and not finding what I had in mind. I saw a macro shot of a rose once and thought, I could do that. And I went home got out my camera and did exactly that. Working in design is a very satisfying and liberating experience, there are no limits or boundaries just a vision/concept. Half the fun is the development of the idea and the satisfaction comes when you have a final piece or product.

8) What advice would you give to someone considering a career/starting out in this industry?

I would say to them to go for it, and to keep developing your idea, share your stages of development with the world. The journey is equally as important as the end result. Be persistent and consistent and willing to take on constructive criticism.
