This year 100% Materials has scheduled an engaging series of events on the theme of food. Design should be a multi-sensory experience, envisioning materials as the ingredients for better design is the recipe for success. Pioneering projects being showcased as part of Materials this year include Suzanne Lee for BioCouture, creative modelling workshop with The Chronic Facility, a practical session on the futures of smart materials by Prof. John Cage and Rachel Edwards-Stuart’s Flavour Feast exploring the genetic perception of flavour. Electrolux Design Lab at 100% Design
The competition theme for 2010, 'The 2nd Space Age', is an exploration of the role domestic product design has in maximizing living space. The brief specifically challenged students to submit thoughtfully-designed products that will shape how people prepare and store food, wash clothes, and do dishes by 2050 when 74% of the global population are predicted to live in an urban environment.
