Nine design decades: Electrolux design – past, present and future
(Henrik Otto, Senior Vice President of Global Design at Electrolux)
Electrolux’s identification of future trends and consumer demands helps us to consider the domestic appliances of tomorrow. Dramatic advances in technology are already facilitating the production of smart appliances that adapt to our requirements. In this session, Henrik Otto, Senior Vice President of Global Design at Electrolux, presents the possibilities that lie ahead, examining the role of materials, colour, shapes and patterns in creating intuitive and interactive products that will empower us in the home.
11:25 – 12:50
Electrolux Design Lab: young global designers present home appliances of the future
Electrolux’s 7th Annual Design Lab proudly presents the eight finalists that made it through a field of almost a thousand entries from around the world. This is the first of two sessions to consider what domestic appliances might look like 90 years from now through the eyes of future industrial designers as they address global environmental and social concerns. The Professional is moving in: future appliance requirements
(Johan Almquist, Senior Vice President Global Brand & Marketing, Electrolux)
In this part of the Electrolux Design Lab, Johan Almquist, examines key trends that will affect how we organise our homes in the future. Prescriptive times and spaces will no longer limit our expectations nor hinder our aspirations. Similarly, the future will present a greater need to deliver appliances that provide a professional performance, that adapt to our lives rather than products that dictate how and where they can be used. Greater flexibility and a harmonisation of domestic spaces require smart responses by domestic product designers.
13:10 – 13:30 (inc. 5 mins for intro and Q&A)
Black is the new green: latest trends in sustainable product design
(Thomas Johansson, Design Director, Major Appliances, Electrolux)
Sustainability has long been a prerequisite in the design process. Here Electrolux present their approach to creating environmentally responsible domestic appliances through case studies. The development and increasing importance of sustainable design is also considered to reflect a growing global concern for the environment. The reduction of natural resources, increased levels of global warming, population expansion and over consumption (to name but a few), present dramatic and growing challenges to address.
