VIEW THE SCHEDULE: Summary or Full Version

What will be the big innovations over the next century? Better communication between you and your appliances, more sustainable design, products that can walk or fly? Electrolux gives you a sneak preview into the future.

On September 24, 2009, Electrolux, a global leader in home and professional appliances, will host the 7th edition of its global design competition Design Lab at 100% Design London.

From teleport refrigerators to flying water catchers to robotic greenhouses on Mars, the top 8 Electrolux Design Lab ’09 finalists will unveil their futuristic product concepts and designs live from the “Electrolux Theatre” at the fair’s 100% Materials exhibition. The program will feature the finalists’ presentations to an international jury, design seminars, an interactive jury panel, and the awards ceremony where the Electrolux Design Lab ´09 winner will be announced!

The design seminars will include an evaluation of domestic product design, (past, present and future) sustainability, material use and applications as well as a look at product development and the use of consumer insights in this process. Viewers from around the world can follow the highlights from the 100% Design fair via a live webcast on www.electrolux.com/designlab.

An international jury of leading designers will judge the entries based on intuitive design, innovation, and consumer insight. The jury includes Nipa Doshi, furniture designer and co-founder of Doshi Levien design studio, David Fisher, Design Director of internationally renowned product design consultancy Seymourpowell, Marisol Manso Cortina, Manager of the Color Design Group at Nissan Design Europe, and Henrik Otto, Senior Vice President of Global Design at Electrolux.

The finalists will compete for the Design Lab 2009 First Prize of 5,000 Euro and a six-month paid internship at one of the Electrolux global design centers. The second prize is 3,000 Euro and third prize 2,000 Euro.
