Job Title: Chairman Company Name: HLM Architects Chris has particular expertise in collaborative working as Design Champion and is committed to progressing excellence in the design of 21st century facilities in all sectors of the built environment. In addition his commitment to Architectural Education has led to teaching involvement at the University of Sheffield, Cardiff, Nottingham, De Montfort, Leicester and Dublin. Chris has also be actively involved in presenting design seminars and lectures in Healthcare, Education, Custodial and Defence Sectors. Chris has been a prime influence in the firm’s PFI projects and is advisor to the Treasury Taskforce and contributor to the publication ‘Good Design in PFI Projects’. Chris is a contributor the following government publications – 1. Good Design in PFI (Treasury Task Force No. 7), 2. Better Defence Buildings – Defence Estates, and 3. NHS procurement Protocols. Since 1998 Chris has been invited to present papers at numerous PFI Conferences across the UK, Europe, America and Australia. Chris is involved in CABE subcommittees and consultative seminar work. As founder members of Design and Health, an internationally recognized Healthcare Academy, HLM has participated in major conferences across the world, more recently at the 6th and 7th world Congress for Design and Health in Singapore and Boston, USA respectively. HLM has also spent time and participated in seminars with IHI – The Institute for Healthcare Improvement together with hosting seminars in London at which IHI have presented a number of research models and Theses Outline of presentation ‘Design sensitivity and the international market place’ From our experience of working in North & South America, Central Europe, the Middle East and Australia Christopher will address some key issues relating to local culture, procurement and business environment and design response to sensitively understand and address the opportunities and challenges of the international marketplace.
