NEW: HELLO FUTURE - THE A-Z OF SMART MATERIALS

Master of materials Chris Lefteri curated the insider's guide to smart materials at 100% Design. “Hello Future” explored the processes of 100 + smart materials for this installation.
Whether it was nano coatings or thermochromics you were after or searching for a cutting-edge material its amazing what the show had to offer. For starters:
Piezo electric ceramic is a material capable of generating electricity from movement - imagine an energy harvesting floor.
The Energy-aware light, the result of experiments with so-called shape memory materials at Sweden's Interactive Institute, this lampshade expands in relation to how much energy the light has used since it was switched on.
Catalytic Clothing has been developed by the UK-based artist and fashion designer Helen Storey. Created in collaboration with the University of Sheffield, Catalytic Clothing is a process for infusing all kinds of textiles with air-purifying agents, capable of breaking down various pollutants.
Although the initial focus is on clothing, the process has just as great potential in many other areas, including interior textiles
Chris is a member of the UK Technology Strategy Board’s Creative Industry Knowledge Transfer Network.
