Features round-up 2013

Features for 2014 will be announced shortly. See below a round-up of last year's content at 100% Design:

Amass

Auditorium: Amass

Benjamin Hubert took a hugely innovative route in his approach to one of the show’s core features: the Auditorium - the setting for the Talks with 100% Design programme. He approached the brief from the studio’s materials driven, process-led industrial design perspective and designed a modular system titled AMASS. AMASS comprises three simple modules that, when assembled en masse, generate a hanging structure that defines space without creating a visual barrier - over 50,000 of these modules were used.

Tunnel

Tunnel entrance

Thomas.Matthews, a leading London graphic design studio, in collaboration with Studio UK, a collective of creative experts, created the breathtaking tunnel entrance for last year's show. Under the show's theme of 'Creative Balance', they produced an animated colour spectrum tunnel which represents the design process and the challenges designers face balancing creativity with business. Studio Design UK added the finale to the tunnel colour experience through an expression of creative balance, provided by products kindly donated by Vitra, Niche London, Magis and Knoll.

3D Home Factory

3D Home Factory

The Interiors hall played host to the Home Factory which was developed to explore the potential of 3D printing in the home. Working with on-line creative platform specialists, Talenthouse, and one of the UK’s 3D print pioneers iMakr, the concept living space demonstrated both the impact of 3D printing in an interiors setting and a showcase of some of the best interiors products submitted for 3D printing from a creative brief broadcast around the world.

Farm Kitchen

Farm Kitchen

Sponsored by kitchen appliance giant Gaggenau and designed by creative studio Mette the Farm Kitchen was brought to life within the Kitchens & Bathrooms hall. Exploring themes of micro agriculture within the urban environment the Farm Kitchen is the ideal place to propagate and generate farm produce otherwise impossible to grow in limited city spaces. A particular favourite were the LED lamps from Bulbo, designed for growing vegetables in the home.

The Hanging Room

The Hanging Room

Award-winning design practice TILT worked on the Office hub in 2013. The “Hanging Room” is a dynamic space allowing multiple options to meet differing needs of an ever-evolving workspace environment. The concept saw hanging wall partitions descend and change the nature of the space below, asking the question of what the future of the workplace will look like.

Materials Atelier

Materials Atelier

The Eco, Design & Build Hub brought back a strong presence for materials and material technology to the show. The space, designed by Material Lab in collaboration with Here You Are Studio provided exhibitors and visitors with the opportunity to experience materials directly and participate in a series of talks, workshops and events about a huge array of materials and their application.

Smart Water

Smart Water

Dornbracht presented the bathroom of tomorrow in an exclusive installation. With high-functioning digital interfaces, inspired by the popularity of the smartphone, Dornbracht's futuristic feature for the bathroom anticipates a host of new user’s expectations. Future Bathroom included a new shower system, Sensory Sky, that features natural elements carefully harnessed and choreographed with precision-controlled patterns of warm rain, light, fog and aromatherapy.

Paper Space

Devised as a neutral space for the meeting of international creative and business minds in the heart of the international section of 100% Design, the International Hub was designed by two of London’s most innovative young architecture practices, Studio Glowacka in collaboration with Maria Fulford Architects. A dramatic and intriguing installation, the central space encouraged the design connections created in London during the London Design Festival.

Zaha Hadid & Samsung

The Super Design Market made its debut at 100% Design in 2013, creating the first dedicated retail space in the history of the show.

Chockablock

Chockablock

Making its UK debut at 100% Design 2013, Turkishceramics in collaboration with London-based architect and interior designer, Ferhan Azman, designed chockablock, a ceramic installation for the International Pavilion. The 58m long bar showcased the quality and variety of contemporary Turkish ceramics.
