Kirigram will be returning to 100% Design London in 2013 to launch its new collection: the ISLAND Parlour table, WEB mirror frame and Mimikri, a limited edition series of wall sculptures.
The ISLAND parlour table is an extension to the original Island table design brought to 100% Design last year, only this time sculpted from aluminium rather than steel.
The WEB mirror frame pays hommage to the Art Nouveau movement with its organic and exuberant shapes. Derived from its sibling “Coronet”, the mirror frame plays with its own mirrored image, floating over the glass to create an interesting double depth effect.
Each piece is inspired by the Japanese art of Kirigami, made from a single sheet of steel, laser cut and 'drawn' into a functional sculpture. The manufacturing process employs both industrial production techniques and traditional craftsmanship skills. The result is an elegant look with a natural organic feel in a uni-material product.
