Torre de Cristal

Torre de Cristal

The A-cero studio interior design project was implemented on the top floors of Madrid’s ‘Torre de Crsital’ (Crystal Tower) skyscrapers.

The 50th floor was designed as a polyvalent space for use by all offices occupying the building that are distributed over its 52 floors.

It is a privileged area boasting the latest, most up-to-date audiovisual and IT technologies on the market.
‘Torre de Cristal’ is the second highest building in Spain. It is located in the Cuatro Torres Business Área (Four Towers Business Area), the capital’s new financial sector situated to the North of the Paseo de la Castellana.

The architect responsible for designing the Glass Tower is César Pelli, who was also responsible for designing Petronas Twin Towers in Kuala Lumpur, a national symbol of Malaysia.

The interiors of the 249 metre-high skyscrapers are designed by Joaquin Torres and his partner, Rafael Llamazares. In these towers, A-cero used all available resources to satisfy its clients.

The offices have a 690.29 m2 interior area divided up into the following different spaces: distribution, board rooms, executive department, management, a multi-purpose room, dressing room and office. This floor also has a 147.28 m2 exterior terrace.

The office block’s public rooms follow a common theme with a clean, modern design creating an elegant, sophisticated and functional environment. The continuous round space was designed by A-cero to match the “sculpted diamond” which, according to Pelli himself, is an attempt to portray a sense of reality through its Crystal Tower.

The dark shades in the offices demonstrate the constant pursuit of contrasts between black and white. Dark grey was used to decorate the walls, floor and ceiling giving them the elegance, neutrality and the retrospective ambience transmitted by this colour. Plain undertones were used to highlight the spectacular views of Madrid that can be seen from this floor. However, white is also used on this floor, especially in furniture and lighting apertures throughout the interior contrasting with the dark, white-striped carpet that covers the whole technical office floor following the light beams shining in through the windows.

A-cero has managed to blend design with functionality in these offices. The shapes and electric apparatus used to raise PC screens and microphones in the conference room are very important for completing this impeccable scenario.

The company responsible for choosing most of the furniture was Candida Hermida, which followed A-Cero's designs using 9 and 12 mm-thick HI-MACS® Alpine White and 12 mm Black for some of its items.

This required the use of 152 sheets of HI-MACS® and a total surface area of 425.11 m2. HI-MACS® hardness and resistance stands up to the constant daily use of the furniture.

The 14-metre long conference table is a prominent item due to its size, design and incorporation of an automatic screen-raising system that emerges from under the table itself. Thanks to HI-MACS®, which enables parts to be joined together without any apparent joints, the table seems to be made out of a single block.

The chill-out terrace has an elegant relaxed atmosphere surrounded by pure predominant lines. This is due to the pleasant combination of the materials used and the area’s luminosity.

HI-MACS® is once again evident here in the furniture and floor. The executive director’s office has two tables made out of HI-MACS® Alpine White. Finally, we can appreciate HI-MACS® in some public areas of the offices such as bathrooms (countertops and accessories), the office, and on signs found in the office and distribution area (ancillary equipment and table).

The Glass Tower project is another real example of the endless possibilities offered by HI-MACS® design and applications for the most innovative and state-of-the-art buildings.
