Smeg bring their newest premium range to 100% Design19-Jul-2017
Our newest exhibitor Smeg is a family-owned and run business and although the company has undergone quite a renaissance over the past few years, the company is big enough to deliver but small enough to care.
Smeg is a third-generation business run by the Bertazzoni family, headquartered amongst the beautiful rural surroundings of Northern Italy. The company, formed in 1948 as specialist metal enamellers is referred to in its SMEG identity - an acronym, serving as a permanent reminder of the company’s origins - Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla, and location of the business.
When post-war Italy began to take shape, people wanted more commodities in their homes and kitchens, and the company quickly saw the opportunity to develop its specialism as a dedicated appliance manufacturer. Today the company is a global brand with more than 2,000 staff worldwide and factories throughout Italy, and has won numerous awards for its designs and technological functionality, in part thanks to several high profile collaborations with heavyweight designers and architects such as Guido Canali, Renzo Piano (the Shard) and most recently its work with Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. Technology with style is the strapline behind the brand.
The contract market is a hugely important channel for Smeg and in recent years Smeg have been continuing to concentrate on successfully growing presence across the UK and in particular key London and the south-east markets, enhancing its proposition further with developers, specifiers and architects.
Following sustained investment in infrastructure behind the scenes to support this growth such as a move to a brand new head office in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, Smeg are preparing to unveil our very own central London flagship store on Regent Street, St James’s this September. It's a very exciting and prestigious development housed over three floors with inspirational product on display. It’s very own Mezzanine design lounge on the top floor is designed with architects, designers and developers in mind, a purpose built facility to be used to discuss projects and plans. The basement will include a demonstration area where Smeg will carry out live cooking displays and bringing products to life.
What sets Smeg apart from competition is the breadth of range and aesthetics and the interlinking ability to co-ordinate all kitchen appliances together. People's initial association with Smeg is the Retro fridge of course. It's a very popular and iconic product, but the brand have so much more to offer. Our built-in appliances offer sleek, contemporary design and are available in a choice of 5 aesthetic families and more than 1200 products and finishes to choose from, ensuring complete product alignment across a scheme, and an aesthetic to suit every type of kitchen design.
Developers are commonly specifying touch control pyrolytic ovens, compact and steam ovens, microwaves, warming drawers, coffee machines. Smeg’s newest range, Dolce Stil Novo, also includes advanced induction hobs, wine coolers, sommelier drawers, sous vide drawers and blast chillers – professional appliances for people's homes. It's our most premium collection and is supplied in two finish options set off against Eclipse black glass–the use of copper or steel detailing, synonymous with the brand’s ‘Made in Italy’ approach.
At 100% Design Smeg will showcase its latest high end, professional appliances perfect for residential settings. The market is saturated with kitchen products and brands, but Smeg is very different. The scope and breath of the range as well as the aesthetic beauty of the range is quite striking, regardless of the development or scheme, there is a range or product to suit every need – and a clear differentiator for an architect or developer to stand apart from other competitive sites.
